Plea bargain OK’d in drug, shooting case

Prosecutors approved of a plea deal last week with a Hulbert man charged with shooting into a dwelling and possessing a controlled drug with intent to distribute.

Ernest Franklin Pigg Jr., 38, pleaded guilty to the drug charge and re- ceived a one-year suspended sentence with costs. The possession charge was reduced to a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana.

Prosecutors dismissed the shooting charge.

Pigg will pay fines and court costs, and be under the supervision of the district attorney.

Prosecutors claimed Pigg fired shots into an occupied residence after he became upset at a woman in November 2012. When deputies arrested

Pigg after the incident, they allegedly found potted marijuana plants and several bags of a green substance, along with two packages of seeds and a scale.

Court records show Pigg was also given the same one-year suspended sentence for a subsequent charge, which was filed after Pigg was arrested for allegedly trying to hide marijuana in a vehicle in April.
