Sheriff's Beat: Woman reports her car was set on fire

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies spoke to a woman Monday after her car was set on fire.

Michelle Yandell said she heard a noise in her front yard and found her car on fire. She saw a man, whom she identified, running away from the scene. Deputies said they could smell gasoline inside the vehicle, and burnt spots were visible throughout the interior. Deputies said the suspect later contacted deputies and said that while he had been blamed for setting the car on fire, he did not do it. Deputies said the man smelled of gasoline when they spoke with him.

In other matters, deputies arrested Dallas Leon Thompson, 46, of Tahlequah, for domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor, driving under revocation and possession of paraphernalia.

Joe Osage, 44, of Kansas, Oklahoma, was arrested Sunday for public intoxication.

Patricia Horton spoke with deputies about an assault last week.

Marvin Gilliland reported a shop building was burglarized last week.

Tara Morgan told deputies some flower bouquets placed on the gravesite of family members this month at New Home Cemetery were removed.

Deputies filed a death-investigation report this week on 22-year-old Todd Hutchinson, of Park Hill. The medical examiner was contacted to determine the cause of Hutchinson’s death.

Deputies also filed a death-investigation report Monday on Donna Kay Johnson, 56, of Fort Gibson. Her manner of death is listed as natural.
