Tahlequah teams fall in Tulsa

— TULSA — Both Tahlequah basketball teams were coming off 1-2 showings at the Siloam Springs (Ark.) tournament last week. The return to Oklahoma didn’t yield any more victories on Tuesday night.

Both Tahlequah teams lost at Bishop Kelley in Metro Lakes Conference play. The Tahlequah girls lost 57-38 and the Tahlequah boys lost 62-37.

In the girls game, Marisa Girdner led Tahlequah (4-6) with 13 points.

The Lady Tigers were within three (20-17) at halftime, but fell further behind after Bishop Kelley outscored Tahlequah 17-6 in the third period.

In the boys game, Tahlequah fell behind early after Bishop Kelley outscored the Tigers 35-14 in the first half. The 5A No. 11 Comets were led by Daniel Smith, who posted a game-high 12 points. Josh Limes added 11.

Tahlequah’s Matt Alberty posted a team-high 10 points for the Tigers (4-6).

Tahlequah will be back in action next week at home against Claremore on Tuesday.
