Around the state

- Hilldale 14, Metro Christian 12: The Hornets managed only 67 yards of total offense but managed to advance to the Class 3A quarterfinals because of Metro Christian’s tendency to turn the ball over on offense. The Patriots lost a fumble and tossed three interceptions in a game played marred by frosty conditions outside. Hilldale went ahead for good on Chandler Puckett’s 12-yard pass to Justin Sanders with 10:41 left in the second quarter, and the Hornets built up a 14-6 lead on Puckett’s 6-yard scoring pass to Hunter Olson with 6:29 left.

- Wagoner 28, Woodward 21: Lawrence Evitt ran for 306 yards on 25 carries as the Bulldogs kept their playoff run intact. After Woodward tied the game at 21 on Dakota Taylor’s 10-yard run with 1:22 left in the third quarter, Wagoner’s go-ahead touchdown game on Evitt’s legs when he strolled in for a 21-yard score with 5:57 left in the game.

- Vian 41, Salina 20: The Wildcats pulled to within 27-20 on Kyle Johnson’s 68-yard pass from Cale Backard with 10:46 left, but Vian posted two touchdowns late — an 18-yard pass from Rylee Simon to Dakota Brown a three-yard run by Eric Casey — to put the game away. Salina turned the ball over three times and allowed Vian to rush for 418 yards on 50 carries.

- Beggs 34, Checotah 28: A fumbled exchange between quarterback Caleb Knight and running back DeShay Bear at Beggs’ 8-yard line with 1:01 left dashed any hopes Checotah had of advancing to the next round of the playoffs. Beggs raced out to a 21-0 lead before Checotah scored its first points in the second quarter.

- Collinsville 36, Bishop McGuinness 35: Zane McElroy’s 75-yard touchdown pass to Keenan Hamilton with 1:18 remaining set up a do-or-die two-point conversion for the Cardinals, which they converted on McElroy’s short run. McElroy finished the game with 365 yards passing, completing 18 passes out of 33 attempts.

- Guthrie 23, Shawnee 21: Despite just 250 yards on offense, the Bluejays managed to overcome Shawnee with four takeaways, including a 73-yard interception return for a touchdown by Zonte Veasley.

- McAlester 52, Carl Albert 13: McAlester’s offense and defense were on full display against the reigning 5A champions. The Titans, despite 358 yards on offense, were held to just six points in the first half as the Buffaloes built up a 35-6 advantage by halftime. Jarome Smith ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Dalton Wood logged four touchdowns (two rushing, two passing) for McAlester.

- Poteau 10, Clinton 7: The Pirates scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to reach the 4A semifinals for the first time since 2006. Jace Pitchford tied the game at 7 on a three-yard run with 10:17 left, and Pitchford followed with a 18-yard field goal with four seconds left to claim the victory over the defending 4A champs.

- Lincoln Christian 27, Victory Christian 26: Micah Wilson hit Justin Flewellen for a 10-yard touchdown pass to take the lead in overtime, and Victory Christian’s two-point conversion after a 1-yard touchdown run by Jalen Wood was unsuccessful to hand the Conquerors their first loss of the season.

- Locust Grove 30, Berryhill 8: Locust Grove made it three-for-three for District 3A-7 (after Hilldale and Lincoln Christian wins) in the second round with a rout of Berryhill. The Pirates forced five Berryhill turnovers and let Mason Fine do the work on offense with two rushing and two passing touchdowns.
