Keys teams forfeit games in tourney

— Keys has dealt with one postponement after another so far this season. On Thursday, Keys' basketball teams suffered an even worse fates — two forfeits.

With Keys out of school again on Thursday, both Cougar teams had to forfeit their basketball games in the Locust Grove tournament. The Keys girls were slated to play Salina, while the boys were scheduled to take on Chouteau.

Keys Public Schools has a strict policy that keeps athletic teams from playing on days when school is out of session. Thursday was no exception.

With the setbacks in the first round of the tournament, Keys' teams will fall to the consolation bracket of the tournament. On Friday, the Keys girls will take on Chouteau at 1:40 while the boys will play Fort Gibson's junior varsity at 12:20.

Hulbert girls pound Porter

MUSKOGEE — Megan Cox led Hulbert with 16 points as the Lady Riders used a dominant third quarter to knock off Porter, 55-38, in the consolation semifinals of the Bedouin Shrine Classic on Thursday night. Cox added six steals and four rebounds in the winning effort.

Tiffany Thompson added 13 points for Hulbert, which outscored Porter 15-4 in the third quarter to lead 43-27 after three periods. Hulbert led 28-23 at halftime.

Hulbert beats Sequoyah

HULBERT — Hulbert beat Sequoyah in District 3A-7 wrestling on Thursday night, 54-26. Matt Clay (106), Dalton Autry (113), Hunter Reagan (138), Justin Owen (152), Wyatt Cain (170), Gabe Scott (195) and Bryan Colvin (220) all picked up wins for Hulbert.

For Sequoyah, Will Tiger (126), Damon Davidson (132) and Nolan Philpott (285) all picked up wins for Sequoyah.

Both teams will wrestle at the Inola tournament on Friday and Saturday.
