Rogers (Ark.) and Rogers Heritage (Ark.) opted not to show up, so Tahlequah took care of business against Union's junior varsity team. The Tigers rallied from an early deficit to beat the Redskins, 65-10, at the TMAC on Thursday night.
"The kids came out and took care of business tonight," Tahlequah coach James Rappe said. "Every time we go out, the boys continue to improve."
With Union's varsity team wrestling in a dual at Lawton MacArthur, Tahlequah squared off against the Redskins' junior varsity, which jumped out to a 10-0 lead after wins by Cordney (106 pounds) and Terryl Brooks (113) early on.
Then Tahlequah took control in what morphed from a four-team quad into a two-team dual.
The Tigers won the rest of the matches, starting with Tate Medlin at 120. Medlin, Paul Sargent (138), Hestin Lamons (152), Reese Davis (160), Chase Campbell (170), Logan Hulse (182), Colton Wright (195), Hunter Littlejohn (220) and Joseph Tucker (285) all won by fall. Campbell's win over Eli Workman took only 12 seconds.
At 126 pounds, Tahlequah's Zech VanFleet won by technical fall against Jacob Kerwin. Wright Weavel (132) and Mitch Sellers (145) won by decision for the Tigers.
Next up for the Tigers is the McAlester tournament on Friday and Saturday.
“I hope we can continue to be competitive and wrestle hard,” Rappe said.
