ANADARKO — Kris Collins' putback at the buzzer sent Class 3A No. 4 Sequoyah to a 64-62 victory over Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
Caisen Green led the way for the Indians (1-0) with 20 points. Quinton Johnston added 10 points for Sequoyah, which will debut at home Tuesday night against Keys.
"[We] didn't play well," Sequoyah coach Jay Herrin said. "Lots of foul trouble. [We were] two-of-10 on free throws. They were much better and had played twice. We had first-game nerves bad. Glad to get out of there win a win."
Lady Indians win big
Cenia Hays was one of three Sequoyah players to score in double figures as the Class 3A No. 3 Sequoyah girls recorded a 68-33 rout of Riverside on Saturday. Hayes led the way with 11 points, while Jhonett Cookson and Feather Pacheco both tallied 10 points apiece for the Lady Indians (1-0).
Sequoyah led 23-6 at the end of the first quarter. Then, to put Riverside away, the Lady Indians outscored Riverside 19-1 in the third period.
