From Staff reports

— COLLINSVILLE — Amanda Milnick recorded 13 kills, four blocks and three aces to lead Tahlequah’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) victory over Class 5A No. 10 Collinsville on Tuesday night.

Also for Tahlequah, Ginnan Tinnin had 14 kills and four aces. Alli George added nine kills while Katie Schneider (16) and Kalie Champlain (12) both finished with double-digit assits.

The Lady Tigers (2-1) will now take a two-match winning streak into Thursday night’s home game against NOAH.

Lady Tigers stay unbeaten

SKIATOOK — Tahlequah continued its season-opening streak on Tuesday, shutting out Skiatook 4-0 in a District 5A-3 road game.

The Lady Tigers grabbed an early lead in the second inning on Whitney Wright’s two-run single up the middle. Wright added another RBI base hit in the fourth inning, finishing the night three for four.

“Whit is swinging it well,” Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud said. “And she’s picking us up in the top of the order.”

Morgan Tarrance picked up the pitching victory for Tahlequah, scattering eight hits over seven innings. She also recorded two strikeouts and two walks.

Tarrance also pitched out of trouble on a couple of occasions.

In the third inning, Tarrance wiggled out of a bases loaded jam — twice. With one out, Skiatook’s Paige Westover got caught stealing between first and second base, and after Kourtney Lincicome walked, Sara Villalobos struck out to end the inning.

Westover tried to make up for the base-running lapse in the fifth, but her single to right field went for naught when Tahlequah right fielder Lindsay Wade threw out Maci Willingham, who tried to score from second base.

“Morgan didn’t have her best stuff, but she battled and we made plays behind her,” said Cloud, whose team improved to 14-0 overall and 2-0 in district play. Tahlequah is now one of only three unbeaten teams in Class 5A.

The Lady Tigers will play again Thursday at Sallisaw.

Sequoyah coasts past McAlester

Class 4A No. 5 Sequoyah posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-5, 25-16) win over McAlester on the volleyball court at The Place Where They Play on Tuesday.

Audrey Ballou led the Lady Indians with nine kills and seven aces. Baylee Herrin chipped in with six kills, and Eva Hooper contributed nine assists. As a team, Sequoyah had 16 aces.

Sequoyah is now 9-0 and will play at Hulbert on Thursday.

Hulbert drops game to Pirates

PORTER — Porter scored three runs in both the first and third innings and beat Hulbert 7-3 on the softball diamond on Tuesday.

Ashlyn Riley recorded Hulbert’s only RBI of the game, and Katlyn Sewell was tagged with the loss for the Lady Riders (4-6), who play again Thursday at Oaks.
