Local briefs

BERRYHILL — Class 6A No. 4 Tahlequah posted a pair of 12-run games en route to two victories over 5A No. 3 Berryhill on Monday.

In a 12-7 win, Kortney Dry and Randee O’Donnell blasted home runs. O’Donnell finished 2 for 4 with two runs batted in while Dry was also 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

In all, Tahlequah finished with 16 hits.

Tahlequah opened with five runs in the first inning before Berryhill responded with six in the bottom half of the frame. From there, though, it was all Tahlequah, with the Lady Tigers scoring seven unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

In Tahlequah’s 12-4 win in the second game, Dry continued her offensive onslaught with four RBIs during a 2-for-2 performance. Kirsten Chase chipped in by going 3 for 4 with three runs batted in.

O’Donnell scored three times and every Tahlequah hitter in the lineup had at least one hit in a 19-hit collaboration.

And again, Tahlequah rallied after Berryhill went up 2-0 after one inning. The Lady Tigers responded with three runs in the fourth inning and seven in the fifth.

Erin Dillard picked up two pitching victories for Tahlequah as the Lady Tigers improved to 21-2.

“We swung it well (on Monday),” Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud said. “We had some big home runs in key situations. We are starting to swing it consistently.”

Next up for Tahlequah is a pair of games in the Festival of Champions in Muskogee on Thursday. The Lady Tigers will challenge both 2A No. 6 Arapaho and 4A No. 1 Dale.

“We have played a tough schedule,” Cloud said. “And we’re 9-2 against top-five teams.”
