PORUM — Tiffany Thompson scored 18 points to lead the Hulbert girls to a 53-30 victory over Webbers Falls in the semifinals of the Greenleaf Invitational in Porum on Thursday night. The Lady Riders advance to the tournament finals and will take on the winner of the Porter-Oaks game, which will be played on Friday.
“Thought we played in spurts,” Hulbert coach Rick Ott said. “We need to do a better job on the glass, and we gave them too many second and third opportunities.”
Lindsey Krueger added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Riders (4-0). Megan Cox also scored in double figures with 13 points, nine of which came in the second half.
Hulbert put Webbers Falls away in the first half by eventually claiming a 34-18 advantage.
“I can see us coming together,” Ott said. “We’re getting there.”
Riders fall to Porter
PORUM — Jacob Richardson tallied 34 points as Porter beat Hulbert, 55-48, in the semifinals of the Greenleaf Invitational.
Leading the way for Hulbert (2-2) was Ricco Wynn, who had 21 points. The Riders will now play for third on Saturday in Porum.
Sequoyah wins in OT
INOLA — Class 3A No. 8 Sequoyah survived to win 78-71 in overtime against Inola on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Jerry O’Quin Invitational in Inola.
The Indians advance to take on 3A No. 3 Verdigris in the tournament finals on Saturday night at 8:30.
The Indians (3-1) were led by Ryan Helsley’s 31 points and 15 rebounds. B.J. Leach added 24 points for Sequoyah, while T.J. Jones poured in 13.
With the game tied at 70 at the end of regulation, Sequoyah responded by outscoring Inola 8-3 in overtime.
Lady Indians fall
INOLA — In a battle of top-10 teams, Class 3A No. 6 Sequoyah couldn’t upset 3A No. 4 Verdigris in a 61-37 contest in the semifinals of the Jerry O’Quin Invitational in Inola on Thursday night.
Courtney Jones and Loren Young led Sequoyah with 11 points apiece.
For Verdigris, Baileigh O’Dell had 20 points and Stacia Payne contributed 17.
The Lady Indians will play for third place in the tournament on Saturday afternoon.
