Broken Arrow’s Farrow etches name into record book

Reasors Track Classic notebook

Udoumoh paces Lady Redskins

Esther Udoumoh admitted she wasn’t the best long jumper on Union’s roster. She allowed Amaya Christon to have that distinction.

“My best friend, Amaya, she’s usually first place in long jump,” Udoumoh said. “And sometimes it’ll be me.”

That day was Friday. Udoumoh tallied a jump of 16 feet, 10 inches to win the long jump crown. And sure enough, Christon was second at 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

That wasn’t all Udoumoh did for Union. She also finished first in the 100-meter dash, recording a time of 12.85 seconds, which was three tenths of a second better than Booker T. Washington’s Sydney Scott (12.88). Udoumoh also tied for fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches, and she also helped Union’s 400-meter relay team come in second.

“I didn’t want to feel too prideful coming in today,” Udoumoh said. “I just wanted to do what I had to do to get some medals.”

Two more bests set

In addition to Farrow’s two meet records being set, there were two more set on Friday.

Owasso’s Savannah Waters set the new mark in the discus at 132 feet, 8 inches, and the Union boys set the initial mark in the 800-meter relay at 1:27.57.

Four records being set this season falls short of the eight set in 2012.

Tempers flare

During a break in the action, there was a brief altercation taking place near the Broken Arrow tent. No details were provided, and action resumed as scheduled during the afternoon portion of the track meet.
