Sequoyah nearly pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback, but came up short in a 38-34 loss to Locust Grove at Thompson Field on Friday night.

The Indians forced Locust Grove to punt with just under two minutes left, but Sequoyah was unable to cross midfield in the waning moments. Zach Parish's pass on fourth-and-7 from the Indians' 31-yard line fell incomplete, and Sequoyah turned the ball over on downs with 1:06 left.

Sequoyah running back Justin Hooper rushed for 226 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries.

Locust Grove quarterback Mason Fine was 22 of 33 for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Pirates appeared to put the game away early in the fourth quarter.

Locust Grove stopped Sequoyah on fourth-and-3 at the 5-yard line. Once the Pirates took over, running back Cameron McIntire rushed 95 yards for a touchdown down the right boundary.

Locust Grove, after missing the two-point conversion, led 38-18 with 8:42 to play.

Sequoyah would rally, though.

The Indians scored two touchdowns on Zach Parish-to-Caisen Green connections. Parish tossed scoring passes of 24 and 31 yards to pull Sequoyah within the final margin with 3:44 to play.

Sequoyah is now 1-3 and 0-1 in District 3A-7. Locust Grove is 4-0 and 1-0.

The Indians will host Keys on Friday night. The Pirates will take on Westville.
