High School Football Preview Capsules

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah at Coweta

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Tiger Stadium

Radio: KEOK, FM-102.1.

Nicknames: Tahlequah Tigers; Coweta Tigers.

Coaches: Tahlequah- Brad Gilbert (second season, 2-13): Coweta – Bubba Burcham

Records: Tahlequah 1-4 (1-1 District 5a-4): Coweta 1-4 (0-2)

Rankings: Neither team comes into the matchup ranked in the Associated Press prep poll.

Last Meeting: In 2012, Coweta beat Tahlequah 54-0

Last Week: Tahlequah 20, Claremore 30; Coweta 33, East Central 40

News to know: Tahlequah pushed Claremore to the limit. Coweta has lost back-to-back games by eight points combined, one loss came in overtime.

Players to watch

• Tahlequah: David Dick (QB).

— Dick,  Tahlequah’s senior quarterback, had 176 yards on 18 carries last week against Claremore as well as two touchdown runs. Dick has constantly led Tahlequah in rushing each game.

• Coweta: Ryan Fitzsimmons (QB)).

— Fitzsimmions (5-11), a senior, has had a solid year for the Tigers. The Tigers’ offense has put up over 40 points in their last three games behind Fitzsimmions.

Looking ahead: Tahlequah plays Tulsa Central at home; Coweta’s next game will be at Collinsville.

Keys at Vian

When: 7:30 pm

Where: St. John’s Stadium

Radio: The broadcast will be tape delayed on KEOK FM 102.1.

Nicknames: Keys Cougars; Vian Wolverines.

Coaches: Keys- Gary Willis (12th season, 77-51); Vian- Brandon Tyler

Records: Keys 1-4 (1-1 in District 3a-7); Vian 5-0 (In District 2a-62-0)

Rankings: Keys is not ranked in Class 3A; in Class 2A, Vian is ranked fifth in the Associated Press prep poll.

Last meeting: In 2012 Vian beat Keys 53-0

Last week: Keys lost to Sequoyah 34-0 ;Vian beat Antlers 41-0

News to know: Keys is 0-8 against Vian, although Keys has played Vian close in most years..

Players to watch

• Keys: Dakota Matlock (RB).

— The Cougars’ sophomore tailback has had 397 rushing yards on 68 carries on this year for Keys.

• Vian: Riley Simon (QB).

— The Wolverines’ junior quarterback has led his team to an undefeated run.

Looking ahead: Keys’ matchup next week is against Lincoln Christian at home; Vian will travel to play Hugo next week.
