Tahlequah softball wins 2

Local briefs

Class 6A No. 3 Tahlequah was locked in a tight game with 4A No. 6 Oktaha on Thursday until the fifth inning. Tahlequah exploded for eight runs to break a 3-all tie while run-ruling Oktaha, 11-3.

Kirsten Chase, Whitney Wright, Lindsay Wade and Caitlin Chuculate each drove in at least one run in the game-altering fifth inning. Wade plated two runs on a single to center field, and Chuculate followed with a triple down the right-field foul line, which scored Wade. Chuculate also scored on the play after Oktaha Sierra Elam bobbled a relay throw at second base.

Tahlequah followed that with a 17-7 rout of Jay. Tahlequah tallied 16 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Chase drove in four runs and Bub Peters and Morgan Tarrance each plated three runs apiece. Chase and Wade each had three hits in the game, leading to Tahlequah’s team total of 17 hits.

Tahlequah improved to 25-4 with games at the Firelake Festival today.

Tahlequah loses to Longhorns

INOLA — Tahlequah’s baseball team mustered only five hits in a 3-2 loss to Inola on Thursday. Colby Brittain was saddled with the pitching loss for the Tigers despite allowing five hits while logging two walks and six strikeouts.

Ben Stacey and Houston Glad each drove in a run for the Tigers (13-12).

Tahlequah will play at Sallisaw on Friday. The junior varsity will play first at 4:30 with the varsity game to follow.
