Hulbert boys win big; Lady Riders fall

KIEFER — Parker Taylor rarely missed from the field and led the Hulbert boys to an easy victory over Oaks, 82-57, in the first round of the Dale Calvert Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

Taylor finished 13-of-19 from the field and logged 27 points and eight rebounds for the Riders (8-5), who trailed 16-14 after the first quarter before leading 33-30 at halftime.

Mason Fielden added 24 points and 10 rebounds for Hulbert, which outscored Oaks 25-13 in the third quarter and 24-14 in the fourth quarter.

As a team, Hulbert shot 33-of-64 (51 percent) from the floor.

The Riders move on to the semifinals where they’ll take on the tournament’s No. 1 seed Kiefer tonight at 8:30.

The Hulbert girls weren’t as fortunate on the opening day of the tournament. Despite 30 points from Tiffany Thompson, the Lady Riders lost 57-52 to Depew.

Hulbert will play in the consolation bracket on Friday at 10 a.m.
