Tiger golfers get 2nd at conference tournament

GROVE — Jake Johnson shot a 2-over 74 and finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Metro Lakes Conference golf tournament at Patricia Island Golf Course on Monday. Johnson tied with Bishop Kelley’s Brody King and Max Griffin for second place.

The Tigers shot 313 as a team and came in second behind the Comets, which won in its final year of the conference with a 300.

For Tahlequah, Hunter Pennington came in fifth with a 75, and Tyler Arnall carded an 81 for seventh. All the top-10 finishers at the tournament made the All-Conference team.

Jack Woolslayer won the tournament with a 1-over 73.

For Tahlequah, Blake Berry shot an 83 and Blake Cochran was one shot higher at 84.

The Tigers will host their own tournament today at Cherokee Springs Golf Course. Slated to join the Tigers will be Keys, Sequoyah, Coweta, Pryor, Wagoner, Westville, Poteau, Stilwell, Muldrow, Sallisaw and Claremore.

As for the Tahlequah girls, they finished fourth at the Metro Lakes Conference tournament on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers were led by Erin Porter (94) and Amber Sweeney (97).

Claremore won the girls crown with a 395.
