Carl Albert overcomes East Central for 5A crown

— STILLWATER — Steven Thompson had two interceptions and two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to lead Carl Albert to a 24-8 win over Tulsa East Central in the Class 5A championship game Saturday night.

Thompson had a 3-yard touchdown run and a 2-yard score, both set up by his own interceptions, as the Titans iced the game in the fourth quarter. Carl Albert, based in Midwest City, scored the game's final 24 points after allowing a 1-yard touchdown run by Tre'von Cherry.

The Titans (9-5) won their first state championship since 2009 and their 11th in school history, finishing the season on an eight-game winning streak.

East Central (9-5) had won all of its games on the field this season but had to forfeit four games.



Clinton tops Anadarko 21-14 for 16th state title

STILLWATER — Marquiz Simpkins ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including the decisive score with 2:04 remaining, as Clinton beat Anadarko 21-14 Saturday to win the Class 4A state championship.

The Red Tornadoes scored 14 points in the fourth quarter for a comeback victory, taking the lead on Simpkins' 27-yard touchdown run. Clinton won its 16th state title, three short of the Oklahoma record held by Ada.

It was the school's first championship since 2007 in Class 3A.

Anadarko had several chances to tie with throws into the end zone despite gaining only 73 yards in the second half.

Anadarko had beaten Clinton 28-21 in the regular season.



Laverne rolls to first state championship, 50-19

WEATHERFORD — Dalton Birch ran for 161 yards and three touchdowns and Laverne won its first state championship in school history by beating Pond Creek-Hunter 50-19 in the Class B title game Saturday night.

The Tigers scored 30 points in the third quarter to pull away in a rematch of division rivals from northwestern Oklahoma.

Tucker Rolf had a 70-yard touchdown run on Laverne's first play from scrimmage after halftime. The Tigers (14-0) ran for 233 yards in the third quarter and 474 in the game.

Harley Comeau returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown for Pond Creek-Hunter (12-2), which suffered its only loss in the regular-season finale against Laverne.

Josh Irvin threw for 223 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Panthers.



Tipton wins first title in 15 years, 30-12

WEATHERFORD — Josh Torres ran for 120 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns, and Tipton's defense clamped down after halftime in a 30-12 victory Saturday in the Class C championship game.

The Tigers allowed only 28 yards in the second half while holding Forgan (12-1) scoreless. Tipton (13-0) posted 11 shutouts this season on its way to its third state championship, and the first in 15 years.

The Tigers went ahead to stay with 5:38 left in the third quarter, when Torres scored from 1 yard out and Bryant Flores ran in the 2-point conversion. Flores tacked on an 80-yard TD run and Torres a 39-yard touchdown run.

Dalton Lemieux and Trevin Lopez ran for touchdowns for Forgan.
