Local hoops briefs

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Whitney Wright was relegated to seven points on Thursday against Gentry (Ark.). But Tahlequah’s senior guard buried a crucial 3-pointer in the final minutes to catapult Tahlequah to a 36-31 victory in the opening round of the 2014 Siloam Springs Holiday Classic at the Panther Activity Center.

Wright’s 3-pointer in the fourth quarter tied the game at 30, and Tahlequah rallied past Gentry. In fact, the Lady Tigers (4-3) scored 15 of the final 18 points in the contest.

Lindsay Wade led Tahlequah with 16 points.

Tahlequah trailed 19-12 at halftime but was able to mount a comeback at the free-throw line. The Lady Tigers finished the game 11-of-13 from the foul line, while Gentry was a mere three-of-18.

“We adjusted well in the second half and got some shots to fall,” Tahlequah coach Johnny Dyson said.

Tahlequah will take on Siloam Springs in the semifinals at 7 tonight.

The Tahlequah boys fell in their opening game of the tournament, falling 61-51 to Charleston (Ark.). The Tahlequah coaching staff, however, failed to report any details about the game prior to deadline time. The Tigers will take on Greenwood (Ark.) in the consolation semifinals today at 11:30 a.m.
