Sequoyah romps in opener

ROLAND — Sequoyah provided some offensive fireworks in its season opener on Thursday at Roland. The Lady Indians slugged out 20 hits and obliterated Roland, 19-0.

Kelsey Leach led Sequoyah’s offensive onslaught, going four-for-four with four runs scored and four runs batted in. She also was a home run short of the cycle, recording a single, double and two triples.

Megan Towie, Hayleigh Galvan, Baylee Ratliff and Sydney Smith all had at least two hits apiece for the Lady Indians (1-0). Towie also drove in four runs, and Smith knocked in three.

Kati Phillips allowed only one hit and picked up the pitching victory for Sequoyah.

On Friday, Sequoyah will begin play in the two-day Broken Arrow tournament.
