THS softball opens with 2 wins

— PANAMA — Class 6A No. 9 Tahlequah opened the 2013 slowpitch season with two easy victories over No. 4A No. 17 Panama and Pocola. Tahlequah won both games by a score of 10-0.

Against Panama, Morgan Tarrance hit a three-run home run, and Britney Johnson, Kirsten Chase, Marisa Girdner and Kortney Dry all recorded at least two hits apiece.

To beat Pocola, Tarrance hit another three-run home run to lead the charge. Tarrance finished the game with three runs scored and six runs batted in.

Bub Peters added a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored, and Whitney Wright was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

"For the first day out, we did pretty good," Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud said.



Cougars lose to Locust Grove

LOCUST GROVE — Keys' lone run in the sixth inning was not enough to overcome Locust Grove in a 9-1 loss on Tuesday.

Dillon Stratton took the loss for the Cougars (1-3), who will play again Thursday at home against Jay.



Tigers split against Bulldogs

SKIATOOK — Class 5A No. 19 Tahlequah split a pair of District 5A-3 games at Skiatook on Tuesday. The Tigers won the opener 5-3 before losing the nightcap 8-6.

The Tigers are now 3-4 overall and 3-3 in 5A-3 play.

Later this week, Tahlequah will play in the Owasso tournament, which gets started on Thursday.



THS girls lose in Arkansas

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — The Tahlequah girls soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Siloam Springs (Ark.) on Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers are now 2-1 on the  year.

The Tahlequah boys soccer team did not report any information to the Daily Press prior to deadline time.
