Class A, Class B championship recaps

OKLAHOMA CITY — Hunter Hall had 24 points and nine rebounds and Glencoe led from start to finish while beating Weleetka 54-50 on Saturday in the Class A boys’ state title game.

The Panthers (31-1) scored the first seven points of the game and never gave up the lead to win their first gold ball in Class A. The school’s other state title came in 2006 in Class B.

Montana Gormly had a chance to tie the game at 51 with 39 seconds left, but he missed his second free throw after making the first. After Hall hit one of two free throws to make it 52-50, Shaun Bencoma missed a 3-pointer that would have put Weleetka (27-3) in front.

Ty Lazenby hit two free throws with 8 seconds left to ice it.

Caleb Wittman led the Outlaws with 17 points and nine rebounds.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Makenzie Janz converted a three-point play with 4 seconds left in double overtime to lift Erick to a 56-53 victory over defending champion Lomega on Saturday in the Class B girls’ state championship game.

The Lady Bearcats (25-8) brought home the second state championship in school history for Erick. The other title came in 1977.

Erick squandered a 40-32 lead in the final 4 minutes of regulation, then had to rally after Taylor Mendell and Charity Geis combined for all the points during a 13-0 run by Lomega.

Maranda Janz hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to tie it at 45 and force overtime, then had the Lady Bearcats’ only basket in the first overtime. She finished with 21 points.

Mendell led Lomega (27-7) with 24 points.

The Lady Warriors (29-3) opened a 32-12 lead midway through the second quarter of Saturday’s game and stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way. Cheyenne cut the deficit to 41-32 on Taylor Swisher’s layup to start the fourth quarter, after Okarche scored just four points in the third period.
