Sequoyah teams roll to Tri-State Classic championships

JAY — The 3A No. 5 Sequoyah Indians defeated Broken Bow to win the Tri-State Classic Championship at Bulldog Arena.

Caisen Green had 17 points for the Indians and was named the tournament MVP. Also for Sequoyah, Quinton Johnston had 15 points and B.J. Leach had 10 points. Elijah Tucker was also named to the All-Tournament team. Sequoyah led 24-14 at the half and continued to hold a sizeable lead on their way to winning the championship.

The Class 3A No. 4 Sequoyah girls won their second straight tournament with a 33-18 low-scoring triumph over 5A No. 8 Memorial in the finals of the Tri-State Classic on Saturday night.

The Lady Indians (14-1) held Memorial to two points in both the second and third quarters.

Jhonette Cookson led Sequoyah with 15 points, and Audrey Ballou tallied 10 points for the Lady Indians. Ballou was also named the tournament's most valuable player.

Both Sequoyah teams will return to Cherokee County on Tuesday and play at Keys.
