All four area high schools had softball games rained out on Tuesday.
For Tahlequah, it was the second day in a row to get washed out, after having games at East Central on Monday postponed. The Lady Tigers were originally slated to play at McAlester on Tuesday, but the game was moved to Tahlequah in hopes of being able to get it in. However, with rain approaching, the game was called off roughly three hours before the game was supposed to start.
Tahlequah and McAlester will now play at McAlester on Monday. The two teams will play at Tahlequah on Oct. 3.
Sequoyah’s home game against Stilwell was postponed after rain arrived in the Tahlequah area around 4 p.m. A makeup date was not announced for the two intercounty rivals.
Keys and Hulbert also saw their games get rained out, too. Keys was supposed to play at Hilldale, and Hulbert was scheduled to play at Vian.
No makeup dates were announced for either matchup.
Keys now will open its season on Thursday at home against Wagoner. Hulbert will be at Warner on Friday. Sequoyah is scheduled to play at Roland on Thursday.
Tahlequah will attempt to begin its 2013 season on Thursday against District 5A-3 opponent, Grove.
NSU soccer in nation’s top 15
The Northeastern State men’s soccer team earned a preseason NSCAA national rank of No. 14, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday.
The RiverHawks (13-5-3) finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 11 in the country after advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
NSU returns nine starters from that squad, including All-Americans Juan Peralta, junior forward, and Eric Crawford, junior defender.
Lynn, the defending national champions, was slotted as the No. 1-ranked team in the land, while the national runners-up, Saginaw Valley State, landed in the No. 2 spot. SVSU knocked Northeastern State out of the NCAA playoffs a year ago. Simon Fraser, Mercyhurst and Regis rounded out the top five.
The RiverHawks are slated to play seven games against teams that received a preseason rank.
Northeastern State reported for camp Monday and will begin training for the upcoming campaign on Wednesday.
NSU kicks off the season Sept. 6 at William Jewell College.
The RiverHawks were the highest-ranked team from both the Central Region and the MIAA.
