PENSACOLA, Fla. — Connor Mutzig went 2 for 3 with a run batted in as Tahlequah held off Overton (Tenn.), 9-6, during pool play of the Aggie Classic in the Florida panhandle on Tuesday.
For the Tigers (6-5), Colby Brittain picked up the win on the mound, while Stephen Wheeler got the save.
Tahlequah was able to open the game up with a seven-run third inning. Seven of Tahlequah’s 11 hits came during the frame.
The Tigers’ offensive barrage a day after being no-hit on the first day of the tournament.
Up next for Tahlequah will be Escambia (Fla.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Sequoyah loses to Ironheads
EUFAULA — Ryan Helsley blasted a solo home run — his second of the season — but Eufaula scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat Sequoyah 2-1 on Tuesday.
Helsley took the loss on the mound after hitting a batter and walking a batter to begin the sixth frame. Both Eufaula players came around to score on two consecutive passed balls for the Indians (0-4). Helsley did recorded 15 strikeouts.
Sequoyah’s next game will be Thursday at home against Okmulgee at 1 p.m.
