Preston rides Dungee to 2A title

Oklahoma commit scores 23 to help Preston beat Cordell and claim its first crown since 2009

OKLAHOMA CITY — Chelsea Dungee scored 23 points to help Preston defeat Cordell 45-41 in the Class 2A girls title game Saturday at State Fair Park.

Dungee, a sophomore who already has committed to Oklahoma, made 8 of 12 field goals to help the Lady Pirates win their seventh state title and their first since 2009. Preston (28-4) never lost to a 2A school this season.

Gabbie Parsons scored 22 points and Cherokee Mitchell added eight for the Cordell (27-2).

Dungee scored 16 points in the first half, and Preston outscored Cordell 12-3 in the second quarter to take a 28-21 lead at the break. Preston extended its lead to 38-25 after three quarters. Cordell cut its deficit to four in the final two minutes before Preston held on.
