No. 1 Sequoyah blanks Westville

Local briefs

WESTVILLE — Kelsey Leach went two for three with a home run, and Sydni Smith also went two for three with a three-run home run in Class 3A No. 1 Sequoyah’s 9-0 win over Westville on Monday.

Kati Phillips picked up the victory for the Lady Indians, who improved to 20-5 and will host Kansas on Tuesday.

Porter beats Lady Riders

HULBERT — Porter roughed up Hulbert pitcher Katlyn Sewell and picked up an 8-1 victory on Monday.

Porter scored in every inning but the first and fourth, and put Hulbert’s bats on ice. The Lady Riders collected only two hits and scored their one run in the fifth frame.

Sewell was tagged with the loss for the Lady Riders (5-9), who will play at Foyil on Tuesday.

NSU women in 4th

CATOOSA — The No. 22- ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team sits in fourth-place after round one of the 15th Annual NSU Women’s Golf Classic. The Classic is being held this year at the par-70, 5,746 yard Cherokee Hills Golf Club located at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Northeastern State freshman Baylee Price leads NSU and is currently tied for fourth place after shooting a 5-over par score of 77. The RiverHawks shot an overall 322 to end round one.

Leading the pack is Arkansas Tech, which scored a 309.

Northeastern State will return to the course for the final round on Tuesday.
