Indians ready to play someone — anyone

The last time Sequoyah took on an actual opponent was November of 2012. There were no team camps during the summertime, and there were no preseason scrimmages to better prepare for the 2013 campaign.

That all ends tonight when Sequoyah hosts Okemah.

“There are some things that you just can’t simulate,” Sequoyah head coach Shane Richardson said. “What we’ve been waiting for for a long time is going and hitting someone else.”

The Indians, who were banned from summer activities and preseason scrimmages by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, get to put the past behind them as the 2013 season commences.

“By not having scrimmages against other opponents,” Richardson said, “to say we’re ready to hit someone else is an understatement.”
