Keys, Hulbert tip off hoops seasons

Two area schools will begin their basketball seasons on Tuesday night. Keys will host Hilldale and Hulbert will take on Chouteau at Rider Fieldhouse.

At both venues, the girls game will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the boys to follow at 8.

For the Keys boys, the Cougars will open a new season after reaching the Class 3A state tournament last season. Keys is currently ranked sixth in 3A and are led by guard, Trevor Eubanks, and forwards, Mason Turman and Peyton Ragsdale.

“We’ve got good players coming back,” Keys coach Duane Jones said, “so we’re pretty excited about the season.”

The Keys girls will be under direction of first-year coach Mickey Duncan.

The same goes for both Hulbert teams, where the boys will be led by Darron McCord and the girls by former Inola coach Rick Ott.

“It’s time to tip it off,” Ott said, “and see if we’re as good as we think we are.”
