Keys, Sequoyah both have high placers at state

The Sequoyah High School track team had four state champions on Saturday during the Class 3A state track meet on at Tulsa East Central.
Mike Soap won the state championship in the high jump with a jump of 6-10, beating out Justin Blackmon of Plainview by four inches.
Lee Chouteau won the state championship in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:33.73, almost eight seconds better than Andrew Leahy of Plainview.
Meanwhile, the girls’ 4x8 relay team of Brandi Walker, Ashley Ross, Nikki Lewis and Alisa Riddle won with a time of 9:56, eight seconds better than Plainview, and the 4x4 team of Taylor Johnson, Walker, Lewis and Riddle won with a time of 4:06.20, a second bettert han Marietta.
As a team, the Lady Indians placed fourth with 66 points, five points behind third-place Marietta. Vian won the team state championship with 80.5 points.
The boys’ team placed sixth with a score of 38 points, 15 points out of fifth place. Millwood on the boys’ championship with 68 points.
The Keys High School track team also had representatives on Saturday in Tulsa. The girls’ track team placed 19th with eight points, tied with Sulphur.
Placing for Keys was Alyssa Bridges in the 3,200-meter run with a run of 12:22. She also finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a tie of 5:28.
Also competing it the 3,200 and 1,600 was Taylor Smith. She finished 10th and 12th.
The 4x8 team of Taylor Terrel, Lynsey Hewitt, Hannah Osborn and Taylor Smith placed 12th as well.
For Sequoyah, Lewis placed fifth in the 100-meter run while Riddle was third in the 800. Ross was third in the 1,600-meter run and Jodi Hooper was eighth in thte 3,200-meter run.
The 4x2 team of Walker, Angel Goodrich, Taylor Johnson and Lewis placed fourth.
In the girls’ field events, Kate Scott placed fourth in the high jump, Holland Riddle placed ninth in the shot put as well as 14th in the discus. Andy Pickup placed ninth in the discus.
For the boys, David Lewis finished eighth in the 800-meter run, Chouteau finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run while Robert Ketcher placed 10th.
The 4x4 relay team of David Lewis, Traven McCoy, Matt Hooper and Chouteau placed fourth.
In the field events, Caleb Dearduff placed 11th while Taylor Poe placed 12th in the shot put. Cody Poe finished third in the discus.
