Nancy Adler of the United Methodist Church isn’t a golf fan.
She doesn’t play it, she doesn’t watch it and she admitted she doesn’t know the difference between a birdie and a bogey.
However, she does know how to raise funds and golf tournaments seem to her to be the best way to do that.
That is why on Friday, Adler is promoting the second annual Circle of Care Golf Tournament held at Cherry Springs Golf Club on Saturday at 9 a.m.
“It benefits the the Children’s Home, Boys’ Ranch at Gore, the Francis E. Willard Home of Tulsa, it is for children and neglected youth.”
This year, Adler is getting a bit more help. After doing almost the entire tournament herself, this year she had the help of Bob Scarsdale, Rich Cramberg, R.C. Smith, Dean Bloss and George Parker.
“Last year, we didn’t have a whole lot of support,” Adler said. “There are two or three people that worked on it all last year and this year there were five men that said ‘can we put together this golf tournament,’” Adler said.
And this season, it appears is going to be a big improvement.
For the entire tournament, there were 11 teams that raised a total of $3,900. Now, with time still available to sign up, there are 18 teams signed up with capacity being 25 teams.
The tournament will be a four-person scramble with the goal of raising $8,000-to-$10,000.
“Most of the money has come from hole sponsorships,” Adler said. “We have 40 sponsorships for 18 holes right now. We’re going to sell mulligans and have two or three other games to play as they go around the course.”
There will also be other prizes to give away.
The cost of the tournament is $60 per person with Jennifer Eckert, the coordinator of the Championship PGA Tour as the honorary chair. The cost includes a greens fees, golf cart rental and lunch.
The tournament will run until around 1 p.m.
