Tahlequah splits two at Oktaha

By TRAVIS METCALF

TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS

On Wednesday evening, the Tahlequah High School softball team was in Oktaha to try and finish up the Oktaha Tournament. The tournament was originally scheduled for Aug. 21 and 23 but the slate of games that Saturday got rained out.

In Wednesday’s make-up games, the Lady Tigers opened with a loss to Heavenor, 7-5, but beat Muldrow in the second game, 6-4.

In game one, the Lady Tigers gave up five runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth.

“We had two or three errors that killed us,” THS coach Ronnie Rogers said. “We’re not coming up with the big plays that we need to.”

Tahlequah took a 1-0 lead in the first and cut a 5-1 deficit down to 5-2 with a run in the third.

The Lady Tigers then got one more in the sixth before rallying for two in the seventh.

Jessie Patrick finished that game 2-for-3 while Ashley Boswell went 1-2 with three RBIs.

In the win, Erica Sampson, Jenna Reed and Katie Bowin all went 2-3 with Reed and Bowin credited with two RBIs. Krystal Herrin went 2-2.

The big inning for the Lady Tigers was a 4-run fourth that gave Tahlequah a 5-4 lead. Tahlequah scored one more in the fifth.

Paige Crow got the win for the Lady Tigers, improving her record to 1-1.

Tahlequah next plays today at the Coweta Tournament. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Coweta High School but were moved to Haskell due to poor field conditions after rain fall in the area.

The Lady Tigers are expected to play at 12:30 against Jenks.
