Published October 13, 2008 09:14 am - Indians keep Chouteau winless By TRAVIS METCALF Sports Editor TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — Finally, the Indians had a game where they didn’t have to worry about either scoring late or making a last-second goal-line stand.
The Sequoyah High School football teams, who’s last three games have been within nine points combined, beat hapless Chouteau-Mazie, 36-0, on Friday night in Chouteau. “It was a game we were supposed to win,” SHS coach Brent Scott said. “We came out and played well.” The Indians broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring 21 points. The Indians were helped by two touchdowns by Brian Salazar, one on the ground and one threw the air. The Indians also got touchdowns from GaryDon Weaver, Cody Martin and Zach Gann. The Indians had gone 2-1 in their last three contests, beating Victory Christian, 35-34 in overtime, losing to Vian, 42-35, and beating Keys, 28-27. The Indians improved to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in 2A-8. Sequoyah next plays on Thursday against undefeated Westville. The Yellowjackets spanked Kansas on Friday, 20-6, improving to 3-0 in district play and 5-1 overall.
