Cowgirls ready to run against fast-paced South Florida

When a 7-0 team meets a 5-3 team, sometimes things can get overlooked. The Oklahoma State Cowgirls are not doing that at all.

Oklahoma State will play the University of South Florida at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the All-College Classic. The Cowgirls have been trying to mimic the Bull’s offense during practice. South Florida will keep Oklahoma State on its collective feet with its face-paced attack.

“They’re very fast and very athletic. We are going to have to have great defense in transition,” Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said.

This year is the first year of the All-College Classic in which women’s basketball teams will compete.

“We’re very appreciative for getting  an invitation. We’ve got a very good  opponent coming in,” Littell said. “It’s good for women’s basketball to have the opportunity to play in  a venue like that.” Oklahoma State comes into the matchup riding a perfect 7-0 record. South Florida is 5-3. The Cowgirls are not looking past South Florida.

“They like to run in transition so we have to get back on defense,” Oklahoma State senior Tiffany Bias said.

Oklahoma State has had two weeks off to get kinks worked out.

“I think we’ve tuned up on a lot of stuff that we were kind of slow at,” Bias said. “I think everyone within these two weeks had some stuff to work on and really focus on.”

The Cowgirls have not played outside of Gallagher-Iba Arena yet this year. Oklahoma State is not too worried about playing in the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

“It’s going to be a challenge going in. But we’re real excited about playing at Chesapeake Energy (Arena). What a great experience for our team to play where the Thunder play and where Durant and Westbrook (play),” Littell said.

Playing in a bigger arena at the Chesapeake Energy Arena could affect the Cowgirls’ mindset.

“I think it will be a good challenge for us because we are not playing at home. I think we won’t really know how we feel until we step on the court,” Bias said.
