Tahlequah celebrated Senior Night with a bang. The Lady Tigers pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of five McAlester errors for a 16-0 rout on Thursday afternoon.
Seniors Marisa Girdner and Randee O’Donnell both recorded three hits. Both scored in Tahlequah’s 10-run first inning, including O’Donnell, who delivered a two-run triple in the first inning.
Also in the opening frame, Tahlequah’s Kirsten Chase drilled a run-scoring single. Bub Peters walked and brought a run home, Morgan Tarrance hit a sacrifice fly and Girdner had a RBI single. Whitney Wright clocked a two-run single, O’Donnell followed with her triple to left field, and Kortney Dry had a RBI single.
“We came out in the first and put it on them a little bit,” Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud said. “I was proud to send our seniors off with a good win.”
Both Chase and Wright collected three runs batted in apiece in the five-inning game.
Tahlequah improved to 32-3 and will host a Class 5A regional tournament on Thursday.
McAlester was limited to two hits thanks to Tarrance’s mastery in the pitching circle. The junior hurler struck out six and walked none.
As for his seniors, Cloud said, “I wouldn’t trade this group for anyone with characters and personalities. It’s definitely a special group.”
