Sequoyah softball claims state tourney spot

HEAVENER — Sequoyah’s softball team lost a one-run game to Heavener but managed to post two wins over Valliant to reach the Class 5A state tournament.

At the regional tournament on Thursday, Sequoyah started with a 13-8 win over Valliant. Hayleigh Galvan hit two home runs for Sequoyah, and Merissa Smith added a blast of her own. Taylor Owl also notched her first home run of the season, a grand slam to boot.

In the regional title game, Sequoyah lost on a walk-off home run in a 15-14 game against Heavener. Smith, Galvan and Julie Scraper each hit a home run, and Owl added two more home runs.

To cap the night off, Sequoyah beat Valliant 12-1. Galvan, Owl and Mariah Hooper hit home runs, and Merissa Smith’s blast was a walk-off home run in the fifth inning.

Sequoyah will now wait for its assignment at the state tournament, which is slated to be played in Shawnee on Tuesday.

Oklahoma hosts Baylor in Big 12 baseball

NORMAN — Oklahoma is set to host Baylor in a three-game weekend Big 12 baseball series.

The Sooners and the Bears are to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman.

OU goes into the series 25-21 on the season and 5-10 in Big 12 play while Baylor is 20-26 overall and 5-12 in the conference.

Thunder G Roberson’s home burglarized

OKLAHOMA CITY — Police say the home of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Andre Roberson was recently burglarized while he was at practice.

A Thunder spokesman said the 6-foot-7 rookie from Colorado attended the team’s practice at 10 a.m. on April 21. A police report shows Roberson said he left his Edmond, Oklahoma, home at 9 a.m. that day and returned at 12:30 p.m. to find that a window screen had been pried off and a sliding glass door had a broken frame. According to the report, an Xbox worth $400 and a backpack worth $50 were stolen.

On April 28, Indiana Pacers forward Paul George’s platinum 2014 All-Star ring with diamonds, valued at $15,000, was stolen from his Indianapolis home, along with a watch valued at $700.
