Class 5A East Regional notebook

— Class 5A No. 1 Collinsville lived up to its billing over the weekend and cruised to the East Regional crown at the Tahlequah Multipurpose Activity Center on Saturday.

The Cardinals ended up with 292 points, which was 113 better than Shawnee (179) in second place. Coweta was third with 164.5.

Collinsville won with seven individual champions. Coweta, Deer Creek and Tahlequah each also had two champions.

Here's a breakdown of each of the weights in the championship round, plus team scores and results:

106: Collinsville started the regional finals with a narrow 2-1 victory by Nate Keim over Deer Creek's Tanner Cole. The individual title is actually Keim's first of the season after posting three third-place finishes and a pair of second-place showings at Yukon and the Mid-America Nationals in Enid.

113: Reigning state champion Christian Moody of Collinsville dominated Coweta's Fletcher Edwards from start to finish for a 14-5 major decision victory. Moody hadn't finished first this season since claiming a title at the Mid-America Nationals in December.

120: A bronze-medal recipient at last year's state tournament, Collinsville's Jacob Findley will head to the state tournament with a regional championship after beating Coweta's Coree Henderson by major decision, 12-2.

126: McAlester's Donald Cannon — a state champion last year — needed overtime to pick up a 3-1 victory over Edison's Aaron O'Brien, who returned this season after shredding both of his knees against East Central's Mark Carter last season.

132: Dakotah McGarrah needed little time to win by fall (1:24) against Shawnee's Malique Lytle. McGarrah's title-claiming victory was actually his second-quickest of the tournament after posting a 41-second fall in the first round.

138: Going after his fourth straight state championship, Collinsville's Gary Wayne Harding coasted to a fall over Edison's Jamal Wright at 2:41. Harding, with only one loss this season, picked up his fifth tournament championship this season and fourth since the calendar flipped to 2014.

145: Will Steltzlen of Collinsville stepped on to the mat and picked up the easiest of victories when Pryor's Kelvin Grubbs lost via injury default. In the tournament, Steltzlen, a reigning state champion, posted victories in three different varieties: major decision, technical fall and injury default.

152: Tahlequah's Hestin Lamons had only been taken down and beaten once this season, and that was to Jenks' Austin Eades in the finals of the Pryor tournament. He was taken down once by Collinsville's Wyatt Jordan in the regional finals, but Lamons shook it off for a 6-3 win to knock off Jordan. Lamons advances to his fourth straight state tournament.

160: Reese Davis gave Tahlequah's its second straight regional individual champion. After being deadlocked in a tight battle throughout, Davis — who finished third at state in 2013 — scored a late takedown to come away with the four-point victory.

170: Coweta's Sam Dawes tallied a takedown of Thomas Shepherd — the No. 1 seed — in overtime for a 5-3 victory. Shawnee coach Larry James argued Dawes takedown but to no avail. Dawes, the No. 2 seed, was coming off a fifth-place finish at the Bishop Kelley tournament.

182: Another state champion in the field, Deer Creek's Cole Pacheco advanced to this year's state tournament with a 5-1 victory over Bishop Kelley's Brice Inbody. Based on the rest of the field, Pacheco and Inbody could meet again in the state finals in Oklahoma City.

195: Eli Hooks, a senior at Deer Creek, was the lowest seed to claim a regional championship with a 4-2 win over Skiatook's Beau Wooden in the finals. Hooks knocked off Gage Humphrey of Shawnee — the No. 1 seed — in the semifinals to reach the finals.

220: The second injury default of the night occurred here when Collinsville's Keenan Priddy was without a challenger. Durant's Blaise Gorges opted for an automatic second place, and Priddy — a silver medalist at the state tournament last season — heads to Oklahoma City as a regional champion.

285: Griffin Qualls was coming off a second-place finish at the Bishop Kelley tournament, and he made up for that with a regional title by pinning Edison's Brandon Chambers at 3:04. It was Qualls' third fall of the tournament after coming off a 2-1 win over East Central's Chance Lamho in the semifinals.
