Tigers salvage a victory out of Siloam Springs tournament

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Tahlequah came up empty against two Arkansas teams at the 2014 Siloam Springs Holiday Classic on Thursday and Friday. Luckily, an Oklahoma team was waiting in the seventh-place game on Saturday.

Dalton Cunningham posted 13 points and 11 rebounds as Tahlequah beat Claremore, 59-56, to return to Oklahoma with at least one victory in the interstate tournament. Alex Paris (11), Jake Vader (10) and Stone Faddis (10 points, 12 rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Tigesr (4-5).

"We got the job done and that's something we're trying to learn to do right now," Tahlequah coach Pat Dotson said. "Cunningham was back on his game, and Vader was good today."

Same couldn't be said for the Tahlequah girls in the third-place game of the tournament. The Lady Tigers were trounced by Prairie Grove (Ark.) in the second half en route to a 50-27 loss on Saturday. Not a single Tahlequah player scored in double figures as the Lady Tigers managed only 14 points in the second half, which was one point better than the first half.

The Lady Tigers drop to 4-5 and play at Bishop Kelley on Tuesday. The girls will tip at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30.
