OKLAHOMA CITY — Tahlequah's Karson Heist and Katie Schneider went into the Class 5A state tennis tournament as the No. 7 seed. That proved to be true throughout.
Tahlequah's No. 1 doubles pair went 3-2 on Friday and Saturday combined and turned in a seventh-place showing at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
Heist and Schneider beat McAlester's pair, 7-5, 6-2, in seven-place match to cap off the weekend.
"Their season record allowed them to get the 7 seed and they held that by beating McAlester for the third time this season," Tahelquah coach April Quiett said. "I've coach Karson since the seventh grade, and it was an emotional final match of her tennis career."
