Sequoyah wins battle of top-ranked teams

Class 3A No. 1 Sequoyah beat Class A No. 1 Red Oak on Tuesday, 8-5.

Sydni Smith hit a home run for the Lady Indians, and Kati Phillips picked up the pitching victory.

Sequoyah improved to 29-6 will host a Class 3A regional tournament on Thursday and Friday. The Lady Indians will need to outlast Kansas, Verdigris and Keys to reach the Class 3A state tournament.

Sequoyah will begin regional play on Thursday against Keys at 10 a.m.

Game 1: Sequoyah vs. Keys, 10 a.m.

Game 2: Verdigirs vs. Kansas, noon

Game 3: Game 1 and 2 losers, 2 p.m.

Game 4: Game 1 and 2 winners 4 p.m.

Friday

Game 5: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 loser, 10 a.m.

Game 6: Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner, noon

Game 7: If-necessary championship game, 2 p.m.
