Bowie suffers shoulder injury

Former Northeastern State left tackle Michael Bowie’s professional career hit a snag on Thursday night.

In the Seattle Seahawks’ preseason finale against Oakland at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Bowie suffered what was being called a “serious” shoulder injury.

“Praying for a speedy recovery! Just a minor setback for a major comeback,” Bowie posted on his Twitter page late Thursday night.

Bowie was competing for a 53-man roster spot in Seattle after being drafted in the seventh round in April. The Seahawks had worked him all over the offensive line in attempts to get more glimpses of him on the field.

The severity of Bowie’s injury was still unknown Friday afternoon. Bowie was slated to have X-rays done Friday morning, but the results of those tests weren’t immediately known during the early afternoon hours on Friday.

Following Thursday night’s game, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said of Bowie’s injury, it “might be more serious than we hope.”

According to roster projections by multiple media outlets in Seattle, Bowie had a decent chance of picking up a roster spot with the Seahawks. At worst, he was targeted to contribute on the practice squad.

If Bowie’s shoulder injury is as serious as believed, he could be released by Seattle. Or, he could be placed on the injured-reserve list, eliminating any possibility of receiving much playing time during his rookie season.
