Tahlequah softball beats Shawnee


Tahlequah's softball team wrapped up play in the Coweta/Claremore tournament with a 3-0 victory over Shawnee.

Randee O'Donnell and Bub Peters both drove in runs for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 21-1. O'Donnell gave Tahlequah a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the third inning, and Peters collected a RBI in the fourth frame. Tahlequah also scored its only other run on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.

Tahlequah pitcher Lindsay Wade limited Shawnee to three hits during a complete-game shutout. The sophomore hurler had three strikeouts and worked around three walks.

Tahlequah will play a District 5A-3 game at Pryor on Monday.



Other area prep briefs

- Tahlequah's volleyball team went 5-3 at the Catoosa tournament over the weekend. The Lady Tigers beat Edison, Christian Heritage, Coweta, Skiatook and Collinsville. The losses occurred against Oklahoma Bible Academy, Christian Heritage (on the second day of the tournament) and Victory Christian.

- Sequoyah's volleyball team went 5-0 at the Okay tournament and won the team title over the weekend. The Lady Indians posted wins over Okay junior varsity, Hulbert, Putnam City West and Westville before knocking off Oklahoma Christian School in the finals.
