Sequoyah wins regional crown, returns to state tournament

VALLIANT — Class 3A No. 8 Sequoyah, the reigning 5A state champion, will return to the state tournament after winning a regional tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Indians (15-10) beat Hugo, 16-2, and 5A No. 2 Valliant, 13-3 (in six innings), to win the regional title. Against Hugo, Kelsey Leach hit a solo home run in the third inning. In the regional championship game against Valliant, Megan Towie broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run home run. In her next at-bat, Towie was intentionally walked to load the bases for Susie Davis, who drove in a pair of runs with a single.

Sequoyah’s pairing and time in the 5A state tournament will be posted at a later date.
