Hobbs named to MIAA All-Tournament team
Bryton Hobbs was named to the MIAA All-Tournament Team after his stellar performance in the 2014 MIAA Championship, the league announced recently.
The senior guard from Kansas City, Mo., helped lead Northeastern State to the MIAA Semifinals after the team drew the No. 9 seed. En route to the semifinal appearance, the RiverHawks knocked off Washburn in Topeka, Kan., and defeated No. 1 seed and No. 15-ranked Central Missouri in Kansas City, Mo.
In the victory over the Mules, Hobbs dropped 31 points overall and scored 29 of those in the second half. During his second-half performance, he had a five minute stretch where he connected on five three-point attempts and scored 21 points.
The MIAA’s leading scorer averaged 24.7 points per game in the tournament, while shooting 38 percent (19-for-50) from the field, 50 percent (12-for-24) from behind the arc and 80 percent (24-for-30) at the free-throw line. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds per game and 6.0 assists per game, and he only missed one minute of action in the entire tournament.
In the two games in Kansas City, Hobbs poured in 29.5 points per game and posted shooting percentages of 42 percent (16-for-38) overall, 57 percent (12-for-21) from downtown and 88 percent (15-for-17) at the charity stripe.
Hobbs was named to the All-MIAA Second Team this season after he landed on the first team a year ago.
