Pair of discus medals highlights Day 2 for Tahlequah

YUKON — Points were hard to come by for Tahlequah on the second day of the Class 5A state track meet.

At Miller Stadium in Yukon, the Tahlequah boys amassed 12 points on the second day of competition and finished in eight place with 22 points. Deer Creek easily won the team title with 175 points while Duncan was a distant second with 71.

For Tahlequah, Sylas Sloan led the way with a third-place finish in the discus. Sloan's toss of 152 feet, 4 inches was good enough for bronze, while his teammate, Logan Cook, was fourth at 151 feet, 10 inches.

Tahlequah's only other points on the final day came from Zech VanFleet's fifth-place showing in the 1,600-meter run.

For the Tahlequah girls, Jessica Hembree medaled for the second straight day by coming in fifth in the 1,600-meter run.

Tahlequah freshman Alli George claimed the Lady Tigers' only other point on the day by coming in sixth in the long jump.
