Tigers fall to No. 1 Owasso

Local briefs

OWASSSO — Tahlequah’s baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision to top-ranked Owasso on Saturday in the finals of the Owasso tournament.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 5-5.

Tahlequah, ranked 19th in Class 5A, advanced to the tournament finals after demolishing Muskogee, 10-1, on Friday.

Austin Riley limited Muskogee to two hits during his time on the mound. Riley, in addition to having five strikeouts on the mound, added four hits on offense, including a three-run double in the sixth inning.

Tahlequah took an early lead on Colby Brittain’s three-run home run, and the Tigers would never look back from that point on.

JENKS — Ara Poteete finished a second shy of his personal-best, but the Tahlequah senior still won the 1,600-meter race at the Jenks track meet on Friday. Poteete ran the one-mile race in 3:34.

Brandon Conrad also posted a first-place finish for the Tigers, beating the rest of the field in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches.

The Tigers — which also had Logan Cook finish third in the discus at 142 feet, 2 inches — came in sixth place with 26 points.

At the Glenpool meet on Friday, the Tahlequah girls finished eighth with 44 points.

Gracie Medellin finished fourth in the one-mile race and third in the two-mile competition.

Tahlequah’s 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter relay team (consisting of Martina Tovar, Allison Luna, Emily Basks and Jordan Roach) finished fifth, sixth and third in each of the three races, respectively.

Roach also finished second in the high jump at 5 feet.
