Arnall named Big Eight MVP

Whether it was scoring, rebounding, assisting or defending, Allison Arnall did a little bit of everything for Hulbert this season.

“Allison did so many things for us night in and night out,” Hulbert coach Rick Ott said of his senior guard. “She lead us in steals and assists and was second in rebounding and third in scoring. She also guarded the other teams’ best player every night.”

All of Arnall’s efforts combined to help her claim Most Valuable Player honors in the Big Eight Conference, which consists of Sallisaw Central, Gore, Vian, Warner, Okay and Hulbert.

Arnall was one of four Hulbert girls to pick up All-Conference honors. Lindsay Krueger and Tiffany Thompson were named to the First Team, and Brooke Bailey was a honorable mention.

Laci Gabbert (Sallisaw Central), Jade Cearly (Gore), Raven Girty (Warner), Cortney Smith (Okay) and Vian’s Erica Casey, Shanessiea Walters and Joehanna Morris joined Arnall, Krueger and Thompson on the First Team.

“The other conference schools were glad to see Allison and Lindsay graduate,” Ott said of his two seniors. “I am glad that I got to coach them this year.”

Hulbert, which was eliminated from the Class 2A playoffs after back-to-back losses to No. 1 Northeast and No. 14 Quapaw, finished its season 16-10.

Krueger, at 6 feet, 2 inchess, was a menace inside all year for Hulbert.

“My two seniors will be hard to replace,” Ott said of Arnall and Krueger, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds a game.

“Tiffany will be force next year with Brooke and Megan (Cox) returning.”

For the Hulbert boys, Mason Fielden and Craig Potts received All-Conference honors.

Sallisaw Central’s Matt Callahan was named the league’s MVP.
