Lady Tigers sweep twinbill

From Staff reports

— POTEAU — Class 6A No. 6 Tahlequah was nursing a slim lead when things went wrong on Tuesday afternoon. Poteau pieced together a three-run rally in the sixth inning, and all of a sudden the Lady Tigers were staring down their first loss of the season.

Instead, Tahlequah posted a five-run rally in the top of the seventh to record a 9-5 victory over the 6A No. 10 Lady Pirates. Tahlequah capped off the doubleheader with an 8-7 victory in Game 2.

"We came out flat and out of sync in the first game," Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud said. "But we figured it out in the seventh."

The Lady Tigers (6-0) scored all five runs in the seventh with one out. Kortney Dry and Randee O'Donnell reached on Poteau errors, and Dry came around the score when O'Donnell reached base. Then, Bub Peters had a RBI single, and Lainey Wallace had a RBI ground out.

O'Donnell finished the game 2 for 4 with three runs batted in, and Caitlin Chucalate drove in two runs. As a team, Tahlequah had 15 hits.

In the second game, Tahlequah scored eight unanswered runs in the first four innings and then survived Poteau's seven-run rally in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings combined.

Britney Johnson and Wallace each posted a team-high three hits, while Tahlequah had 20 hits. O'Donnell and Dry both drive in three runs each.

Tahlequah pitcher Erin Dillard picked up victories in both games.

The Lady Tigers' next game will be Thursday at Sequoyah for a doubleheader.

Lady Indians coast

BRISTOW — Class 5A No. 4 Sequoyah posted two easy victories on Tuesday, beating Sperry 12-0 and Bristow 23-3.

Against Sperry, the Lady Indians (3-1) scored six runs in the first and third innings each. Kara Linch finished 2 for 2 with a home run and two runs batted in, while Sequoyah collected 15 hits as a team.

Against Bristow, a 15-run fourth inning buried the Lady Pirates. Linch hit another home run, and Kelsey Leach was 4 for 4 with two home runs.

Sequoyah will return home for a pair of games against Tahlequah on Thursday at 4 p.m.
