The Tahlequah High school volleyball team won their home opener in dominating fashion on Thursday night over the Okay Lady Mustangs. The Lady Tigers went on to win all three sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-7.
Tahlequah advanced to 1-1 on the year
“We are happy to play our first game at home and get our first win of the year,” Tahlequah coach Don Ogden said.
The Lady Tigers took over the match in the second set when they fell behind by five points early on. But Tahlequah battled back and clawed their way to get it to a 19-19 tie. Tahlequah pounced on a chance to take the lead and did so with an ace by Amanda Milnick, who had 4 aces in the match to go along with six kills and three blocks. The exclamation point was added by Milnick as she killed the ball to end the second game.
Tahlequah had a dominating performance to end the match as they went on a 10-point run in the third set.
“Our offense was great at times tonight,” Ogden said.
In an effort to improve serving efficiency, all of Tahlequah’s servers executed a jump serve against Okay.
“We are trying to transition to the whole team going to all jump serves,” Ogden said. “I am pleased with how our jump serves where tonight.”
Tahlequah will return to action Tuesday night at Collinsville.
