Local softball tournament starts today

Tahlequah High School and Northeastern State University have teamed up to created a local softball tournament this week. The two institutions will both serve as sites for the Tahlequah/NSU tournament, which will include six teams from around the state.

Round-robin play will begin today and continue into Friday. Bracket play will take place Saturday at Tahlqeuah's Lady Tiger Field.

The field will include three Class 5A teams: Tahlequah, Piedmont and McAlester. Locust Grove will represent the lone 4A club, while Keys and Henryetta are both out of 3A.

Here's a quick glance at how each team stands prior to the tournament beginning:

- Tahlequah - 7-0 and coming off a 2-1 victory at Poteau on Tuesday.

- McAlester - 3-1 and entering the tournament after blowing out Edison 21-3 on Tuesday.

- Piedmont - 2-0 with both victories coming over Guymon in District 5A-1 play. Piedmont won both of those games by a combined score of 31-3.

- Locust Grove - 1-3 following a 3-1 loss to Miami on Tuesday.

- Keys - 3-3 after a split with Kansas and Locust Grove on Monday.

- Henryetta - 2-4 and coming off of a 10-2 win over Okemah on Tuesday.

At Tahlequah High School

Tahlequah vs. Locust Grove, 1 p.m.

Tahlequah vs. McAlester, 2:30 p.m.

McAlester vs. Keys, 4 p.m.

Tahlequah vs. Keys, 5:30 p.m.

At Northeastern State

Keys vs. Henryetta, 1 p.m.

Henryetta vs. Locust Grove, 2:30 p.m.

Locust Grove vs. Piedmont, 4 p.m.

Piedmont, Henryetta, 5:30 p.m.


At Tahlequah High School

Tahlequah vs. Piedmont, 1 p.m.

Piedmont vs. Keys, 2:30 p.m.

Tahlequah vs. Henryetta, 4 p.m.

Piedmont vs. McAlester, 5:30 p.m.

At Northeastern State

Henryetta vs. McAlester, 1 p.m.

McAlester vs. Locust Grove, 2:30 p.m.

Locust Grove vs. Keys, 4 p.m.


At Tahlequah High School
