Tahlequah's Eric Garcia sweeps throwing events in Tulsa

TULSA — Eric Garcia is in a throwing groove right now. He proved it by dominating at Booker T. Washington's S.E. Williams Stadium on Friday.

Garcia logged a throw of 52 feet, 3 1/2 inches in the shotput and 153 feet, 9 inches in the discus to coast to both titles.

Thanks to Garcia's 20 points, Tahlequah racked up 78 points and finished third at the Hornet Classic. Booker T. Washington was first with 145 points, and Claremore landed the silver with 107.5.

As for the Tahlequah girls, they gathered 71 points for fourth place. Booker T. Washington (119), Bartlesville (114) and Jenks (78) rounded out the top three.

Here are some other events that Tahlequah posted top-five finishes in:

Girls

- 400-meter relay: Tahlequah was second at 51.99 seconds. Booker T. Washington was first at 50.55.

- 3,200-meter relay: Tahlequah was second at 10:33.40. Bartlesville won at 10:29.93.

- 100-meter hurdles: Tahlequah's Morgan Thompson was third at 17.11. Bartlesville's Elle Denyer won at 15.49 seconds.

- 800-meter relay: Tahlequah was fourth at 1:51.78.

- 400-meter relay: Tahlequah posted a second-place finish at 51.99. Booker T. Washington was first at 50.55.

- 1,600-meter relay: Tahlequah went from last to third with a time of 4:27.

- High jump: Tahlequah's Alli George was first at 5 feet, 2 inches.

- Long jump: George was fifth at 16 feet.

Boys

- High jump: Brandon Conrad of Tahlequah was the only jumper to clear 6 feet, 6 inches to win the gold.

- 3,200-meter relay: Tahlequah was second at 8:20.57. Claremore picked up gold at 8:07.37.

- 800-meter run: Tahlequah's Braxton Hood was second at 2:02.02. Edging out Hood was Owasso's Andrew Cordray at 2:01.40.

- 1,600-meter run: Tahlequah's Zech VanFleet was third at 4:42.96. Stilwater's Zach Porterfield rallied past Bartlesville's Krishan Baniqued at 4:31.62.

- 1,600-meter relay: Tahlequah was fourth at 3:33.43. Claremore's Tyler Jackson brought the Zebras from behind to win at 3:22.95.
